You know me, I am always scouring the internet for new records but I found this record club that the pressing plant Gold Rush Vinyl is doing. Looks like it is a pilot program. Limited to 100 founding members. I signed up for it last night. Not a whole lot of information on it but based upon what I have seen from instagram, some of the artists they have included in their boxes are Charley Crockett, White Denim, Wood and Wire, and The Vaporcaves. Looks like it will be a steady diet of Texas artists which is ok by me. I am willing to give it a roll for two record for $31 shipped.

We have the best job in the world: making incredible new records... and it's only fair that we share what we're hearing!

That's why we're quietly trying something new: the Gold Rush Vinyl Club.

  • Get two (2) new vinyl records each month for $28 plus tax (S&H included)
  • Each album is picked by our team and manufactured at our factory
As a company, our mission is to help musicians earn more money from their music. To that end, all featured artists will be paid for this program.

So, jump in, and discover new artists and amazing albums worth spinning!

This is a pilot program, so membership is limited.

(U.S. only for time being -- sorry, international fans!)

As an early Gold Rush Vinyl Club Member...here is what I've received to date...

* the featured artist for the month, 2nd album was based on my preference selections.

MonthFeature ArtistSecond Artist
April 2020 (club begin)The Vapor Caves - Feel YourselfChicago Underground Quartet - Good Days
May 2020Wood & Wire - North of DespairGrupo Fantasma - American Music. Vol VII
June 2020White Denim - World as a Waiting RoomGabe Hascall - Thousands of Thorns
July 2020Sports Team - Deep Down HappyThe Reverent Few - Ain't No Place To Be
August 2020Ghost Gnotes S/TJoseph Seif - Works for Solo Piano Vol 1.

As you mentioned it's been a pilot program...but can say July was the only month I received any shipping notice, and I usually get the records in the later part of the month (about a month after payment is processed). I live in the same city as the pressing plant (Austin), so imagine this is just when they get around to shipping them.

I will say communication has been lackluster...something I'm hoping will improve outside of a pilot. I'm sure COVID-19 has impacted/challenged the roll-out plan.

Thanks for the information. Do you feel that it is worth the money? Pressing quality good? Do you know if they base what records are sent to you on what type of music you mark on the order form? That is one thing I noticed on Instagram and Facebook is that there isn't a lot of communication. As long as I get what I pay for, I am ok with it. I am guessing I could a lot worse for $30 a month. So me signing up for it last night means, I won't get a box until September right?

All my payment have been posted through JotForm on the 20th of the month.

Given this, if you’ve already been charged you might get the August record...If you aren’t charged till the 20th, you’ll get your first one in September. This is a good example of an area they could improve on communication (granted I haven’t gone to their site to check).

The jackets have all been pretty basic/standard jackets (no gatefolds yet)...and I think a majority of mine have been in black.

Of the ones I’ve received, I’ve enjoyed about half of them, which is fine from a discovery standpoint...I can always sell the ones that aren’t for me to my local.

As for quality, I’d love to hear a second opinion...they sound good to me.

I signed up for this club over the weekend. I got a confirmation that essentially just said they'd received my information. I think that means I am a member...? I'll post more here if and when I ever receive some records!

Just got my shipping notice. Looks like the pilot program is full and they are going to be relaunching the website soon to be able to add more subscribers. The fact that it is full is a good sign. They also told me the featured record of the month based on my preferences.

I just got my shipping email as well. Getting the debut LP from Ghost Gnotes (the lead guitarist from Ratliff/Nightsweats) and some sort of mystery pick based on my preferences. Fingers crossed for shelf-worthy tunes!

Same here. They said this regarding the second record, get ready for some psychedelic folk grooves, classical key tapping or Texas-grown freak rock. Sounds interesting.

Got my August shipment today...along with Ghost Gnotes, the "psychedelic folk" selection I got was Joseph Seif - Works for Solo Piano Vol 1.

EDIT: Narrator “Seif wasn’t psychedelic funk”

My bad...I misread the write-up that came with my shipment...and being unfamiliar with Seif...yes, it's classical piano.

The other album options are Bee Appleseed (psych folk-rock) or WE are the Asteroid (Texas Freak Rock).

Thanks for the info. Looks like I will be getting the Bee Appleseed record then. Mine is supposed to be here Wednesday.

Got my package today. Ghost Gnotes and The Vapor Caves. I'm not sure why I would get an apparent vaporwave pick, but I'll give it a shot. I won't have a chance to listen until maybe tomorrow morning.

This Ghost Gnotes is pretty good. Reminds me of a few things, but it's hard to put a finger on it. Good dreamy acoustic pop.

The Vapor Caves are probably good. They do a lot of time changes and stylistic shifts. But it's not my thing.

How is everyone liking WATA?
