Television

Is anyone else hyped for the upcoming release of Expanse S4? I've been re-binging S3 in anticipation. It remains one the best things on screen. The story is compelling, the acting is solid, and the art is amazing. I just hope hat Amazon spent the appropriate $ to keep it looking as good as the 1st 3 seasons
I loved S1 so much. S2 didn't hold my attention, I'm not sure why. I only got through half of it. I think I was missing Thomas Jane. And the Amos character was too macho for me at the time in my life I was watching it. I'm going to revisit it and binge all the way through. I am actually excited for it. There is just too much TV!!!! AHHHHHH, I can't keep up!!! Lol
This is one of my favorite shows of the decade. Is Amazon picking it up? I need to go back and rewatch the series.

If you want to get suuuuper nerdy, here's some science behind it all. I am so in love with how well they did this part of the series. I love the characters; Naomi is my girl. But the scientific accuracy behind it, *chef kiss*

One of the few shows/movies that takes gravity seriously, and even though they don't get too much into it, Belter is a fairly well-done creole language on the show, too (I teach a foreign language, so I care more about those things than most, I think).

I also love how it's a chance to read/watch something with politics that aren't OUR politics, where the different factions just represent current ones (as often happens in sci-fi).

Get ready...

Making It is back and I didn't even realize it till today. They've been airing an episode a night since Monday, with the full season wrapping up next Thursday. For the uninformed...this is the reality competition show with Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman as hosts. The Makers are all craft/design people. Basically, it's The Great British Bake Off but with crafts/design. And it's even more gentler and warm-feeling that GBBO. If you want a light watch that makes you feel good, watch this show.

There hasn't been a lot of promotion for it. We've watched the first episode of this season so far.

Ditto, we really enjoy it too. Unfortunately it feels like NBC decided to dump the show during the holiday lull. I hope they keep it going. It’s Prozac in reality TV form. What it lacks the sheer Britishness of TGBBO it makes up for in Pohler and Offerman Charm/Chemistry in spades!

I really liked season 1, so I'm glad this is coming back

I really liked this one too. It was well done and I really liked that it was a family show.

I have it on the DVR for me and the mini-me to watch. My girl's favorite thing is her hot glue gun. We've also been enjoying the show airing on Nickelodeon where kids compete by making holiday themed crafts.

Watchmen is superb. Truly inventive television.

Mr. Robot season 4 has been one of the most satisfying payoffs I've ever experienced in tv. So extremely entertaining.

The Mandalorian is junk. McDonald's in tv form.

Interesting thing is someone on twitter compared Mandalorian to Xena or Incredible Hulk, and I think they're onto something. I can't tell if it's a feature or a bug, but in today's more-serialized, grand-story format of television storytelling, it's kinda nice to have a show that is very "show up here this week, have adventure with this week's guest stars, get back on the road." I don't find the Mandalorian to be very interesting as a character, so my enjoyment of each episode depends entirely on the story-of-the-week, but I'm sticking with it.

I'm fine with an adventure of the week format if the show has an overarching conflict, or if there were characters of any substance, but so far (with 2 episodes left this season) it has neither.

Finally catching up on some great shows in the past month or so:

Barry - loved the first season of this show; the second season was good, too, but I think maybe the freshness of it is wearing off a little bit; I find the LA gang storylines really boring. It’s starting to feel like there are too many characters and plotlines so everything feels a little thin except for Barry, Hank, and Fuches; I barely know anything about the other people in the acting class, including Barry’s own roommates - just seems odd

Fleabag - trudged through the first season bit didn’t really enjoy it much until the last episode. Second season was much better. Loved the fearless discussions about religion and more screen time for Olivia Colman. The finale of the second season was really satisfying.

Killing Eve - watched first season- waiting for second season on Hulu. Loved this, too. The first five minutes or so of the first episode had me hooked. Jodie Comer is so unpredictable. Glad to hear season 2 will be available soon on hulu.

Just started Succession two days ago. I’m almost halfway through Season 1 and loving it so far. I don’t find it as hard to watch or depressing as I’d heard others say, but maybe it gets heavier later? Anyway, Shiv is my favorite character so far, but I also really like Kendall. It’s a far more subtle performance than Culkin’s Roman, at least so far, anyway.

Waiting for Watchmen to finish so I can binge it.

Thanks to everyone here for the great recommendations!!

I mean yea, its Star Wars. Doesnt mean it's not a ton of fun.
Bear in mind that this is a property owned by a company that makes children's fare. Light serialization that a seven year old can follow is a tall order. Sure, it's a little shallow for those of us who have grown used to the golden age of TV, but it's got high production values, cool characters, fun action set pieces, and a little bit of mystery to keep you coming back for more. Want intricate plotting? Feel free to revisit Phantom Menace's trade negotiations, Jedi Council deliberations, and Senate intrigue.

Even before Star Wars was owned by Disney it was already children's fare
