Vinyl Me Please Classics

Lucille's info is up now.

BB is my hands-down favorite blues artist, ever. I have high expectations for this.

Storf's doing his monthly stock check thread over on Reddit, and here is the Classics inventory, from most stock to least:

Fabio >> Donald Byrd > Celia & Johnny > James Booker >> Darrell Banks >> Eddie Floyd >> Little Milton >> Isleys > Rosetta > Lightmen > Koko > Nat Turner >> Willie Bobo > Lafayette >> William Bell >> Archie (under 50 left)

Edit: He left out Brubeck in the above list, but said elsewhere in the thread that was down to under 200. I wouldn't expect it to survive beyond Black Friday sale and swaps this month.

There must have been an extremely high swap out rate if there are more Celia & Johnny than James Bookers, given that Booker had a huge production run from what I recall.

Also, Storf said that they are working on an Aretha Classics title as well. I was kinda hoping for an Aretha Anthology as there are so many of her albums (Aretha Now, Soul '69, Spirit in the Dark, Fillmore West, Young, Gifted and Black) that could use a quality reissue. I will be happy with any of those as the Classics pick though.

Late 60s, early 70s Aretha is up there with some of the most untouchable runs ever. Currently rooting for Amazing Grace to selfishly replace my copy of one of those annoying, but fine sounding, stackable A-D and B-C 2xLP versions.

Haha, nice username @Joe Mac.

Providing this for insight into the purported future Aretha Classics pick. Lost all interest in it halfway through reading and gained some hope back by the end. If it doesn't end up being mono, I'll likely be back to looking for an original of whatever it is.

This points to that release being Aretha Now or earlier as well, if it has a dedicated mono mix, I believe. Unless Storf again has it wrong...

Just cross posting this in case anyone is more interested in this in here.

Storf saying they are trying to get mono tapes seems to point to Aretha Now or earlier, right? Unless he is wrong which given these circumstances is a genuine concern!

I would love for it to be an AAA mono of Lady Soul or Aretha Now though.

Lady Soul got a really nice stereo reissue last year - Aretha Franklin - Lady Soul

Not sure if it's AAA but it sounds great. Aretha Now definitely seems ripe for a reissue though!

From everything I've heard, for that era, the mono mix Arethas are always superior, which is why I haven't picked up a cheap original stereo, or that reissue. Either would be great for me.

Storf also said that in the first 4 months of next year, 2 or 3 Classics titles will be in the running for "biggest ever." I assume one of those is Aretha. I asked "bigger than Call Me and Freedom Rider?" and he said "yes."

Should be good ones then, Classics has been the only track that is usually on point.

I could be wrong but I do believe there was hinting of a Herbie Hancock release at some point. Maybe that got replaced by the Art Blakely.
Yes! I remember him saying that!!! I have a feeling Herbie Hancock will be one of the ‘big titles’ Storf is referring to. Hopefully the third Classics ROTM title is a Stevie Wonder or Donny Hathaway album! 🤞

I’d say whatever the second Aretha is will likely be one of those. I wouldn’t mind Nina Simone being revisited in the classics if I’m still around.
