Michigan

Was there ever a Spins in Michigan? If there ever was, I imagine it would have been near Detroit, which would have been impractically far for me to attend anyways.

Michigan checking in.
I'm right between Detroit and Ann Arbor...tons of record stores in any direction!

Royal Oak has a new spot called the Detroit Record Club - more of a curated approach w/ a focus on rock/jazz. Worth checking out!

Cool, thanks...I hadn't heard of this yet. Definitely stopping in sometime soon!

Shout out to Street Corner Records, Underground Sounds and Third Man as my three favorite record stores in Michigan all for very different reasons.

Street Corner has been my favorite RSD stop the last three years, I love that place.

SCR is good about getting people what they want on RSD. DRC apparently has a club option w/ a one-time fee that gets you 10% for life in store as well as other perks (like early RSD access.)

I finally stopped in to Detroit Record Club today, really liked it. I'll probably try and stop in every couple months. Tons of jazz, some pretty collectible stuff and certainly priced that way. Kinda funny seeing a few copies of Songs for the Deaf just chilling in a rack. That was so many people's white while not too long ago.

I was in there a few weeks ago. Owner seemed cool. Genuinely interested in customer wants etc. Picked up an original Blakey for good price and a new Tone Poet Grant Green release at lowest non Amazon price I’ve seen.

I got Rusty Bryant - Night Train Now, but that's it, didn't stay long enough to deep dive.

damn this one is kinda dead. Anyone gone record shopping in the area post covid?

I haven't, but am hoping to sometime soon. I follow Dearborn Music and Detroit Record Club in Insta, I keep waiting for a must-have to show up and that may get me to go. It's mostly just been pre-orders and online deals for me in 2020.

I popped into Detroit Record Club once a few weeks ago. They're starting to stock up again. Also to Jack's Record Stache and Electric Crown in Flint since they are near me. Pretty quiet overall though.

Are those downtown Flint? I have in-laws in Grand Blanc and in Goodrich so maybe next trip up I'll venture to those stores.

Jack's is in downtown Flint. The owner, Jerry, is super cool. It's small but there is lots to dig through. Electric Crown is closer to Grand Blanc off Saginaw Highway just past where it intersects with Dort. Mike (owner) is cool too. It's mostly a classic rock and metal shop, some punk. I mostly order new releases from him rather than Amazon or wherever. Tell them you know me they'll take care of you. I live in Grand Blanc so let me know when you're heading up.
