@MikeH He's still solid live. The other N&Gers there loved it. I just don't "get it". And this was my 3rd try live cause festivals.

I'm pretty sure Francis from Francis and the Lights was one of the first to use that Prismizer effect, then taught it to Bon Iver, who then taught it to Kanye haha. Then everybody decided they wanted to use it.

@MikeH Literally my least favorite sound in all of music outside of maybe a sped up banjo. But also- thanks for the history lesson. Fascinating.

Does sped up banjo mean like a banjo played at >1.5x or like one played fast?

A sped up banjo played by Mumford & Sons

@Melt Face Molly Drop You and I should start a podcast where we just channel our inner Daria and hate on shit. Another thing I said last night during Bon Iver's set is that part of why I missed his initial hype train is because he came up right as I had hit eject on folk because bands like Mumford and Sons / Lumineers had popified the scene.

@Melt Face Molly Drop Thank God for bands like Big Thief, Florist and the Boy Genius girls for rescuing us from a world of Oh Heys.

And as much as I dislike Bon Iver, no one can accuse the dude of sitting still or lacking ambition as an artist.

@Lee Newman A banjo played fast. I really struggle with most blue grass and country.

He sat in with Dead and Company a few years ago and things did not bode well…

Black Muddy River

It’s pretty bad. Crowd was instantly turned off.

@MikeH he's still awesome live. My 2nd fav set of the weekend. I get why some aren't into it. He's gotten weirder than Kanye ever was, and the glitched out stylings have bled over into his older stuff. He's been experimental longer than he was ever folk at this point tho. I love it. Very emotionally affecting.

Hating banjo just boils down to questionable taste tho😉

Being from KY and not liking the banjo would be like being from Korea and not liking Kimchi tho.

@DownIsTheNewUp i get why people don't like that sound but i think it's really impressive, especially to achieve that sound live. from what i understand, his mic is hooked up to a midi controller and he's singing but also playing the accompanying harmonies at the same on the midi keyboard. i don't think it's just some auto-tune.
