What's Spinning

Shellac - Live in Japan

IMG_1077.jpeg

Like a lot of us, I’ve been on an Albini tribute spin cycle, but I’ve mostly been spinning on CD. This is the first vinyl I’ve played, and this feels appropriate.

I was introduced to Shellac by a friend in my uni job, who copied me At Action Park, all the early singles and this onto tape. I quickly became obsessed, and loved them ever since. This Japanese live album is kind of a greatest hits of the period up to At Action Park, and it’s amazing.

Also, for some reason I’ve never played this record in the near 20 years I’ve owned it. Play your records, people!

price sticker tells me i picked this sometime between ‘01 and ‘04, which means i’ve had it about half my life. play wear tells me i’ve spun it on a few dodgy tables since then

the production on this record still makes zero sense to me but i’m fascinated by it
